Vision Check Part 1: Re-flect on the Past

This has really been a year to look back and reflect. The founding father of Singapore, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew passed away on 23 March and the nation mourned with gratitude for the lasting legacy of nation-building that he left behind. The SG50 celebration was another opportunity to look back and remember how far the nation has come.

As Singaporeans prepare to vote this Friday, looking back is a very good thing to do. The voters determine who will be entrusted with the task of continuing to steer, build and give stability to the nation going forward. While there are a lot of promises and claims being made, the best indication of who is able to govern would be based on past performance and present convictions, not just future promises.

As a church, we have also taken some time to look back at our beginnings and the foundation stones that God gave us to build on 25 years ago. Our DNA from the past includes these building blocks.

  • Missions
  • Worship
  • Community Service
  • A family spirit of love expressed through cell ministry

We don't want to drift from the priorities that God has so clearly blessed these past 25 years. As the same time, we look back to remember the things that matter in order to keep moving forward! We may change our approach to some of the ways we operate but will continue to hold onto the core values and mission that make us who we are as C-Praise.

Looking back to reflect helps us to chart a course for the future. We don't want to get stuck or sidetracked. We know that the greatest things are still ahead so we are aiming towards a great future together. Paul was saying this in Philippians 3:12-14 (The Message):

“I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running and I’m not turning back.”

Let’s remember to look back with gratitude and to press ahead with passion and determination to know and love Jesus with all of our hearts. We have tasted and seen how good He is and we know that the best is yet to come!

Still running,
Ps George
