We are doing a study on the subject of Identity from the book of Ephesians. Understanding our new identity in Christ is one of the five pillars of whole life discipleship. Many of you know that we are walking the church through a Disciple-Shift which is aimed at re-engaging everyone in intentional, authentic growth and practical steps forward as a follower of Jesus. Some of us have been stuck and are frustrated with the lack of progress in our Christian lives. We long for the vibrancy and dynamic power of the Spirit and the renewal of our first love.
We are building a system and approach to discipleship that is focussed on growing in spiritual maturity through healthy, intentional, authentic relationships. The key areas of growth are called the 5 pillars and together, they form the foundations of a vibrant, flourishing Christian life (for more info, click here). The letters of the 5 Pillars almost spell FIRST:
Faith: Make Christianity go beyond Sundays or the weekend into an everyday, 24/7 reality.
Identity: Establish a secure identity in Christ and find your God-given purpose for which you have been uniquely created.
Relationships: Learn how to experience true intimacy and authentic relationships with those around you, especially with significant loved ones.
Sexuality: Discover sexual wholeness for yourself and your family through holistic view of sexuality as God designed it.
Values: Be equipped with an unshakeable Biblical worldview so that you can interpret and influence the world.
The message on Sunday was: “Living as Children of Light” and part of our text was Ephesians 5:8-13 (NIV)
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.”
We looked at four main characteristics of light to understand how we are to live as children of God: Light Moves, Light Changes, Light Attracts and Light Reveals. Want to know more? The message is available in audio or video format below!. Let me encourage you to learn how to see yourself in a new light and let your identity be reshaped by the brilliance of God’s glory shining in and through you!
