The Kingdom of God is based on different values, different definitions of success and a different operating system that contradicts how the world thinks and operates. Nowhere is this more clearly seen than in Jesus’ definition of greatness. He repeatedly taught his disciples a radical way to view themselves and their ambitions: “If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all” (Mark 9:35); “But many who are first will be last, and the last first” (Mark 10:31); “but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:43-45).
In order to help us stay in the “servant zone” (all of us tend to drift back into the wrong approach), below are 10 promises for those who make servanthood their ambition and goal. I hope these benefits will rekindle your passion to change the world in the same way that Jesus did, by serving!
Benefits of Servanthood
- Serving Reveals Your Purpose and Calling In Life “And now the Lord says, who formed me from the womb to be His Servant” (Isaiah 49:5a)
- Serving Gives You Boldness
“For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.” (2 Corinthians 4:5)
- Serving God Sets You Free From Being A People Pleaser
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” (Gal 1:10)
- Serving Attracts the Ministry Of Jesus
"Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them." (Luke 12:37)
- Serving Attracts the Outpouring Of The Spirit
"Even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days.” (Joel 2:29; Acts 2:18)
- Serving Attracts Revelation
“I am Your servant; give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies.” (Ps 119:25)
- Serving Opens Your Heart to Receive God’s Reward!
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Col 3:23-24)
- Serving Releases Your Freedom and Deliverance
“O LORD, surely I am Your servant, I am Your servant, the son of Your handmaid, You have loosed my bonds.” (Ps 116:16)
- Serving Is the Posture Of Victory
“And in Your lovingkindness, cut off my enemies And destroy all those who afflict my soul, For I am Your servant.” (Ps 143:12)
- Serving Is the Pathway To Promotion And The Joy Of The Lord
“His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’” (Matt 25:41)
