Roots and Fruits pt.2: The Spirit of Acceptance & the Root of Rejection

Rev. Michael Ross Watson is unusually qualified to speak on the subject of rejection. Growing up in a family where he was regularly beaten by his stepfather and locked in his room could have left scars for life. Instead, his painful childhood rejection by both parents created a longing for acceptance that eventually brought him to a youth meeting and then to a church service where he received Christ. Of course, this was only the beginning of his journey into forgiveness and freedom from rejection.

His testimony is a moving reminder that we were created for relationships and when things go wrong in the way family members and those closest to us treat us, the results can be catastrophic. Today, Michael Ross Watson is radiant with the spirit of love and acceptance that God desires to deposit in the heart of every believer. The apostle Paul spoke of this in Ephesians Chapter 1:

He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved (v. 4-6 NKJV).

Moving from a root of rejection to a spirit of acceptance in Christ is one of the greatest gifts that we can receive from God. We are adopted, chosen, beloved, blessed and treasured children of our heavenly Father! While it is true that rejection will try to put down roots in our hearts through the words and actions of others, forgiveness is the cure that allows God to fully heal our hearts.

Many people carry a wound from their father or mother that is in need of healing. I am convinced that God is in the business of taking out the bad roots and replacing them with good fruits! You can reject the power of rejection and declare your complete acceptance in Christ. Below is a simple prayer that you can use to do this:

Father in heaven, I thank you for choosing me for adoption as your own child.
You have accepted me and declared me to be valuable.
I am no longer rejected but now have the spirit of love, acceptance and forgiveness.
I reject rejection and refuse to let it have a place in my life.
I choose to love and forgive those who have hurt me and I bless them in Jesus's name!

As a child of God, you are no longer a slave to fear and rejection. Enjoy your freedom, it was purchased at a great price!
